Report a message

Flag a message that breaks the rules so it can be reviewed.

What reporting does

Reporting sends a copy of the message to Root for review, along with the reason you pick. The person who posted it is not told that you reported them. Root reviews every report, but for privacy reasons we're unable to share the outcome of any investigations or moderation action taken.

Reporting does not delete the message or stop the person contacting you. If you want them to stop contacting you, see Block and unblock users.

You can report a message in a text channel or in a direct message. The steps are the same in both.

Report a message

Desktop

1. Right-click the message you want to report.
2. Select Report message.
3. Select a reason for reporting the message.
4. Select Report.

Root confirms with Successfully reported message.

Mobile

1. Press and hold the message you want to report.
2. Tap Report message.
3. Select a reason from the list.
4. Tap Report.

Root confirms with Message reported and returns you to the conversation.

Reasons you can choose

You pick one reason from this list. The Report button stays inactive until you pick one. On mobile, tap a selected option again to clear it.

Not sure which reason fits? Pick the closest one, or choose Other. The review team reads the message itself, so your choice does not limit what they can act on.
