Voice channels
Join live audio and video chats in a community's voice channels.
Join a voice channel
- Desktop
- Mobile
- In the channel list, find a voice channel (marked with a speaker icon).
- Select the voice channel to join.
- You're now connected. Other members in the channel can hear you.
- Tap a voice channel in the channel list.
- A confirmation sheet appears showing the channel name and how many people are in the call.
- Tap Join call to connect.
Switch to a different voice channel
If you are already in a voice call, you can switch to a different voice channel. Switching disconnects you from the current call.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- In the channel list, select a different voice channel.
- A confirmation dialog asks if you want to switch. It displays the name of your current call and the call you are joining.
- Select Switch call to disconnect from the current call and join the new one.
- Tap a different voice channel in the channel list.
- A confirmation sheet appears, showing that switching will disconnect you from your current call.
- Tap Switch call to disconnect and join the new channel.
Leave a voice channel
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Look at the voice connection panel at the bottom of the channel list.
- Select the Disconnect icon (phone with X).
- If you have moved away from the call screen, tap the floating call window to reopen it.
- Tap the leave icon in the call controls to disconnect.
If the controls are hidden, tap anywhere on the call screen to bring them back.
Adjust user volume
You can adjust the volume of individual users in a voice channel. Volume adjustments are local to your device and do not affect what other members hear.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Right-click on a user in the voice channel.
- Adjust the User volume slider (0-200%).
If the user is sharing their screen, you can also adjust Stream volume separately.
- Press and hold a participant's tile.
- Drag the volume slider. There is no percentage readout, just a quiet speaker icon at one end and a loud one at the other.
To silence someone just for yourself, tap Mute below the slider. Your volume setting for that person is remembered for next time.
More things you can do with a participant
Pressing and holding a participant's tile opens a panel with more than the volume slider.
- Desktop
- Mobile
Right-click a user in the voice channel to see the options available to you.
Everyone can:
- View profile to open that person's profile.
- Mute to silence them for yourself only.
In a community voice channel, if you have the right permissions you also get a Moderation Actions section:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Admin mute | Stops that person speaking for everyone in the call. |
| Admin deafen | Stops that person hearing the call. |
| Remove from voice call | Disconnects them from the channel. |
If someone has muted or deafened you this way, tapping your own microphone or headphone control tells you so, and you will need an admin to undo it.
